The Pflugerville Fire Department has joined the top 1% of American communities for fire protection. ISO, an insurance industry advisory company, has awarded the Pflugerville Fire Department an ISO Class 1 rating. ISO currently rates over 30,000 fire departments within the United States and of those, only 1% of them receive a rating of 1.
The ISO rating is used to measure the quality and effectiveness of fire protection in a community. ISO uses a scoring system that results in communities being rated 1 through 10, with 1 being considered the strongest or most capable.
As part of its evaluation, the ISO collects information on municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout the U.S. ISO’s Public Protection Classification (PPC) Program helps establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties and provides insurance companies with reliable, up-to-date information about a community’s fire protection services. The formal assessment process consisted of three major areas:
The ISO evaluation of the fire department accounts for 50 percent of the rating; while water supply accounts for 40 percent, and the department’s communication system accounts for the final 10 percent.
Having a Class 1 ISO rating allows our residential and commercial property owners the opportunity to obtain the best possible insurance rates. Many residential insurance companies use ISO ratings to determine how much you pay for homeowners insurance while ISO ratings are a primary consideration in how commercial insurance rates are determined.
